Using the inter-web as a technical resource can be iffy, but I needed something based on people's actual experiences. I haven't taken the car to the shop yet, but I'm sure I've got a leak somewhere. Besides fixing the leak, I probably need to at least evacuate, flush system, and replace the drier. By then I need to choose my refrigerant, and that's where the research started. Found a couple of sites with some real interesting information. Links: La-Z-Link La-Z-Link I'm sorta leaning towards a retro, depending on what I find when I have the system checked out. I may have them evacuate the system, then I'll replace the drier and fix whatever leak, then have them flush and fill with R134a. I currently have Freeze-12 in the system (or did). If the leak can't be found and if everything else looks ok, I might just see about dropping another can or two in the system to hold me until I'm ready to do something more drastic. It held for a year or so with Freeze-12 after Z1 installed a used compressor. Either way, I might want to replace the drier. Z1 didn't replace the drier when they did the install, so there's no telling how old it is, or if it's even compatible with R134a or the newer refrigerants/lubricants. Comments and suggestions welcome :-)
